How to Edit Pictures in WordPress

To edit a picture in WordPress:

  • Click on your picture.
  • Click an icon to realign the image, or click the pencil icon to edit.
  • Click ‘Update’.
  • Click Publish or Update for your page or post.

Detailed Instructions

Let’s assume that you’re editing a page and you want to change the size of a photo.

Click on the image. A row of icons will appear on the image.

The first three icons align an image to the left, centre or right of the text. The fourth icon inserts the image on the left, with text above and below it. The pencil icon edits the image. Click it:

You have the following options:

Caption – The text shown underneath the image

Alt Text – Blind people use reading software to browse the web. The software reads out the Alt Text for each image. The Alt Text is also displayed while an image is loading.

Align – Place the image to the left, right or centre of text, or turn off wrapping so that the text only appears above and below the image.

Size – On upload, Wordpress creates several versions of an image at different sizes. You can decide which one to insert, or choose ‘custom’.

Link To – Media File/Attachment Page/Custom URL/None. You can decide what’s displayed when someone clicks on your image. Custom URL allows you to send the reader to another document or page.

Changing the image size

Click the arrow on the Size dropdown to select a different image size.

Click ‘Update’.

Hint: Remember that WordPress has created different versions of the image. If you want to change the image to a custom size that’s bigger than the current size, first save it at a larger size, then at a custom size. Otherwise, your image may be fuzzy.
